The ultimate question: Why?

Every parent knows the day will come when their child will enter the “why phase”. The phase where every sentence uttered is followed by a quizzical “Why?” and every reasonable (and unreasonable) answer is followed by another “Why?”

Today was the day that I entered this uncharted territory. My daughter is 29 months old and 1 day. She started in on “Why?” early morning and didn’t stop until distracted by friends hours later.

How exactly do you deal with this? Should I just explain and explain and try to avoid saying “because Mommy said so” and “because that is how the world works”? Obviously, the why on both those questions is even more complicated.
