Tofu recipe #2: Walnut Tofu burgers

Continuing on with my tofu recipe theme from Tuesday, I give you my very first favorite tofu recipe.  I liked these burgers before becoming vegetarian and before really being open-minded about tofu.


1 pk (10.5-oz) tofu (preferably firm); 2 tb Soy sauce
1 c Walnuts; chopped 2 tb Nutritional yeast
1/4 c Sunflower seeds 1/2 ts Basil
1/4 c Scallions; chopped 2 c bread crumbs tossed with your favorite herbs


  1. In a food processor or blender, puree tofu
  2. then add rest of ingredients except bread crumbs.
  3. Put bread crumbs into a bowl (I like to add fresh ground pepper) and pour tofu mixture over it.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Form into 8 burger patties and bake on a greased cookie sheet in a 350F oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

(Note: These can be grilled also!)

Serve on a burger bun with your favorite condiments.

NOTE: These can also be formed into smaller meat balls and served with spaghetti sauce over pasta.

  1. mmmmm more yum… do you know if the yeast can be substituted or left out altogether? i have never seen nutritional yeast here. i have some really yummy veggie recipes to i would like to share with you!

  2. I am all up for recipe exchanges. I have done it without the yeast, but it is better with. Also, in Latin America you should be able to find yeast… ask the little old ladies. i think that any yeast that makes bread would ok.
